Appeal Court’s Decision Not Yardstick For 2019 – Emeh
A former Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House, Chief Emeh Glory Emeh, has said that the decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja on the December 10, 2017 Rivers re-run election cannot be used as a yardstick to determine the outcome of the 2019 general election as claimed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.
Chief Emeh, who was speaking last Friday when some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) visited him in Port Harcourt, in reaction to the boastful statement credited to the state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Chris Finebone that Governor Wike will be the next to go in 2019, stated that the Appeal Court’s decision will not rub off on future elections in the state.
The former Commissioner for Transport, in dismissing APC’s opinion said that it will be an uphill task for any other party to unseat Governor Nyesom Wike and PDP in Rivers State, irrespective of how many times elections are held in the state.
The political stategist further argued that, given the outstanding performance of Governor Wike in two years, in terms of infrastructural and human resources development, “it will amount to day dreaming to imagine that Rivers people will leave the known and go for the unknown”.
His words: “It is obvious that Rivers people cannot be hoodwinked by any degree of propaganda, falsehood and imagination. Wike has shown sufficient capacity and has demonstrated to the satisfaction of Rivers people that ability to perform should be the precondition for voting any body into office.
“For any one to make progress, he needs unity of purpose. PDP remains a united and cohesive party, in contrast to the APC that is fragmented into several pieces, because united we stand and divided we fall.
In spite of the outcome of the Appeal Court’s decision on the senatorial election, it is not debatable that PDP is still a majority party in Rivers State having over two-third majority in the State Assembly and the Federal house of Representatives, and therefore the party to beat in any election in Rivers State”, Glory Emeh told his PDP visitors.
Emeh called on PDP faithful to remain steadfast and continue to support Governor Nyesom Wike’s inclusive administration which remains committed to improving the lots of all who live and do business in Rivers State.
