Rotary Club To Provide Water, Sanitation Facilities In Communities
The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, District 914, has pledged to focus more attention on the provision of water and sanitation facilities to rural communities in the state.
Club President, Rotarian Ferdinand Banigo, said this during a courtesy call on the General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC), Mr Vincent Ake in his office in Port Harcourt, recently.
Banigo said that the visit was part of activities towards the inauguration of the 2016/2017 executive of the club and the commencement of the new Rotary year which held last Saturday.
He said that the club will embark on workshops and sensitisation on personal hygiene and clean environment across its catchment areas, while the provision of water facilities will be given utmost priority.
He said that the situation is to check the rate of waterborne diseases as well as ensure clean environment for communities in the state.
The club president also listed other areas of focus to include conflict resolution and maternal healthcare, literacy and basic education as well as economic empowerment of the people.
According to him, the rest are vocational training and income generation for the youths, stressing that, more riverine communities will also be covered.
The club president who said that orphanages will get the support of the club, stressed the need for partnership with the corporation with a view to publicising its activities.
In his response, the General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC), Mr Vincent Ake thanked the club for its humanitarian activities.
Mr Ake stressed the need for publicly-spirited individuals to assist the rotary club to continue with its humanitarian activities, stressing that, the functions of the club are for the downtrodden in the society.
He also pledged the support of the corporation towards publicising the activities of the club.
