Rotary Assures Communities Of Sanitation Facilities
The new President of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt North, District 9141, Rotarian Oge Umeh, says the club will focus on the provision of water and sanitation in the next one year.
Umeh, who said this during his induction in Port Harcourt said that in line with this, sanitation and water facilities would be provided to communities within its catchment areas.
According to him, the plan is to eradicate water borne diseases as well as promote hygiene in communities in the state.
The Rotary President also pledged to focus on economic empowerment through the provision of soft loans to market women in its host communities, while the rising cases of infant and maternal mortality would also be tackled.
Umeh, who solicited for support to the club also urged public, spirited individuals to identify with the less privileged in the society.
He urged them to embrace the ideals of the club, as it has provided opportunity for millions of people across the world to harness their potentials to serve humanity.
Earlier in his speech, Chairman of the Installation Committee, Rotarian Chidi Okwara, called for partnership to enable the club execute its projects in the next one year.
Rotarian Chidi listed areas of focus as peace and conflict resolution and prevention, water and sanitation, disease prevention and basic education and literacy.
The rest are maternal and child healthcare, economic development of host communities and the global end polio project.
