Return Of Peace To Ogoni Communities Excites RSG
The Rivers State Government has described the return of peace to Bomu and Lewe communities in Gokana Local Government Area as one of its greatest achievements.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Conflict Resolution, Chief Okori Abelekum said this in an interview with The Tide shortly after declaring open a two-day mediation and community reconciliation workshop for community leaders in conflict-affected communities in the state organised by his office in conjunction with Rivers State Conflict Management Alliance in Port Harcourt.
Abelekum also condemned the cult clashes in Omudioga in Emohua local government area, which led to loss of lives and property.
He said that the state government would not condone any act of lawlessness in the state, and urged those involved in the cult clashes in Omudioga to sheath their swords in the interest of peace in the state.
Abelekum said that Governor Nyesom Wike has initiated several peace initiatives by supporting community reconciliation in conflict-affected areas in the state.
“His commitment to peace demonstrates the New Rivers Vision where everybody will live peacefully, pursue their goals and realize their full potentials in dignity and happiness”, he added.
The special adviser stressed the need for Rivers people to key into the vision and become agents of peace in their various communities.
Also speaking, the Director, Conflict and Gender Studies, University of Port Harcourt, Dr Fidelis Allen said that the workshop would help build the capacities of community leaders across the state towards achieving peace in their various communities.
Allen also commended the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for supporting the Rivers State Conflict Management Alliance to achieve peace in the state.
In his speech, Head of Local Government, Port Harcourt City Local Government Council, Barrister Franklin Ajinwon, commended the organizers of the workshop, adding that it would go a long way to consolidate the prevailing peace in several parts of the state.
