Farmers Bemoan Poor State Of Road …Seek RSG’s Intervention
Farmers from Rumuodogo in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State have appealed to the state government to rehabilitate their only access road.
The farmers who spoke to The Tide recently at their community, said transporting produce to markets had been a major challenge to them.
According to Elder Nfata Mathias, a retired school teacher, farmers in the area were suffering due to the bad state of the road.
According to him, the nearest community of Rumuji, where there is a market, has become inaccessible to them.
When contacted, the paramount ruler of the community, HRH Ohan Osunwo, confirmed the development.
Osunwo, explained that the road contract was awarded between 2012 and 2014 by the immediate past administration of Hon. Chibuike Amaechi.
Represented by his son, Prince Gospel Wori, the monarch said farmers, especially women, fold their cloths to enable them wade through the muddy road.
Also speaking, the CDC chairman of the community, Mr. Otto Ismail, explained that Rumuodogo is predominantly a farming community.
He called on the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration to come to the aid of the community.
The Tide investigations indicated that contract for the road was awarded to Joseph Odu and sons between 2012.
However, The Tide gathered that the contractor only graded the road and poured some laterite.
The development, according to The Tide, further worsened the condition of the road, with the rainy season setting in.
Also, according to The Tide findings, contract for the same road, was awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), to OIilek limited in 2016, and nothing has been done since.

Ayo-Ajayi commended the Ogun State Government for partnering with the government at the centre for the effort in supporting farmers with inputs that would bring about yieldings for local consumption and likely exportation.
She noted that government is supporting rice, cassava and maize farmers with inputs worth N212,000; N189,000 and N186,000 respectively.
