Monarch Seeks Recognition Of More Chieftaincy Stools In Rivers
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has been called upon to recognise more traditional stools in the state in order to enable them benefit from the system.
The Acting Paramount Ruler of Rumuadaolu, Eze Franklin Amadi, made the call in a chat with newsmen at his palace in Rumuadaolu, Obio/Akpor local government area.
Amadi said that if the state governor can recognise and upgrade more chieftaincy stools in some LGAs that have few, it will make them feel the government’s presence.
He was emphatic about the need to pay urgent attention to the upgrading and recognition of the Rumuadaolu stool, due to its sensitive geographical location in the state.
The monarch reasoned that it will be equitable, if each LGA will have one first class, second class and third class chiefs, pointing out that it will allow for equal representation in the state’s council of traditional rulers’ meeting.
Admitting that the recent recognition of some chieftaincy stools by the governor was in the right direction, he delivered that it was not enough going by the number of unrecognised stools sent to the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs for the governor’s attention.
According to him, there are more tasking duties for the traditional rulers to execute in their various areas, adding that they must be empowered to carry out such assignments.
He pointed out that the traditional rulers were the chief security officers of their respect communities, saying that they were accountable to the security challenges in their localities.
The traditional ruler was of the view that since nature denied man the power of omnipresence, the governor needed more hands to aid him in the fight against insecurity, hence the need to recognise and establish more traditional institutions.
