PH Residents Hail Buhari, N’Delta Leaders’ Planned Parley
Port Harcourt residents have hailed the proposed meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and Niger Delta leaders which is expected to bring peace and development to the region.
The residents, who spoke with newsmen in Port Harcourt, said they expected the October 29 meeting to bring the violence in the region to a halt.
A publisher and public affairs analyst, Chief Oby Ndukwe said that the meeting was a step in the right direction.
“I see it as a step toward finding a solution to the region’s challenges.
“I am hopeful that the outcome of the meeting will reduce disturbances to the barest minimum.
“Achieving peace will kick-start the economy because the truth is that oil production is on the decline as a result of the restiveness of the youth in the region,” she said.
Ndukwe further said that peace in the Niger Delta would also attract development to the region.
“It’s a two-way thing. Peace and development are two sides of the coin; they go side by side because having peace is not just enough without development,” she said.
The publisher advised the Federal Government to ensure that the meeting was all inclusive.
