91 Egbema Youth Graduate From Free Computer Programme
Ninety-one
successful students have graduated from a free holiday computer programme organised by Delta Computer and Stores in Okwuzi, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
During the graduation ceremony held on Saturday, certificates were issued to the students while those who performed outstandingly well went home with gift items such as phone, fan, laptop amongst others.
The director of the institute, Otumudia Gideon, disclosed that the programme involved are computer appreciation, micro soft word and micro soft power point.
Gideon noted that the aim of the free computer training was to assist youth in Egbema communities to acquire knowledge of computer in view of the importance of computer literacy in the nation’s educational curriculum.
He said, “everything is now based on computer, even Joint Admission and Matriculation Examination”, adding that a time is coming when anyone without computer knowledge would not be recognised no matter the level of education one attained.
The director enjoined all and sundry to join hands with the institute to make the school children to be computer literate as the world is becoming a global village through the aid of technology.
He commended all organisations, individuals and groups that partnered with the institute and promised that the next edition would be broadened in scope to accommodate more students as well as expanded programme.
The chairman of the occasion, Mr Ijeoma Clinton lauded Mr Otumudia Gideon and the entire management of the institute for the sacrifices being made to promote computer education in the state and called for the collaborative efforts of more organisations and groups in the interest of youths of the area.
Clinton who is also the President of Egbema Youth Association (EYA), promised that the association would sponsor some indigenes of the area on a six-month computer programme during the next edition.
