Take NIMET Flood Alert Seriously, NESREA Tells Rivers Residents
The National Envi
ronmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has warned residents of Rivers State to take seriously the recent prediction of massive flooding of most parts of the state and some other 16 states across the country by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET).
The Zonal Director of the agency in the South-South and South-East, Ralph Nnam, who gave the warning at the weekend in Port Harcourt, said the devastating impact of the 2012 floods should not be forgotten in a hurry.
Nnam urged residents to ensure proper cleaning of their environments and desilting of drainages to prevent flooding.
The NESREA director explained that the agency was already working with partner agencies to ensure that the negative impact of the 2012 flood does not repeat itself in the zone.
