LG Boss Assures On Workers’ Salaries
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Akuku -Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, Rowland Sekibo, has assured that payment of workers’ salaries will be regular now, following an improvement in allocation.
He said that no council chairman should give excuse for not paying workers’ salaries, since allocation to the councils have increased in the last two months.
Sekibo who disclosed this while interacting with journalists at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Monday, said that the amount of allocation that go to the Local Government Councils has increased since June 2016.
According to him, the allocation that go to the council is not just for the payment of salaries alone, but for other things like electricity and security, among others.
“Civil Servants think that the allocations that come to the councils is for the payment of salaries alone, but it is not only for salaries alone.
“We have to provide security for the people because if there is no security, even the salaries can be stolen by these bad boys. We also provide electricity because if we don’t, the salaries will be used to provide fuel or diesel”, he said.
On the amnesty programme of the state government, he said that the action of the state Governor, Chief (Barr) Nyesom Wike is highly commendable noting that his local government (Akulga) is the collation centre.
According to him, leadership is given by God and that when one is in leadership position it is for everybody, both the good and the bad.
He said that Governor Wike has taken a bold stop to put the youths back on track, noting that everybody must not be killed, but can be made to change and be useful to the society.
The CTC chairman, therefore, called on the youths to have a re-think and take advantage of the offer by the governor to refrain from killings, cultism and kidnappings.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
