Remains Of Two Agip Workers Recovered
The search and rescue
team raised, following attack by gunmen suspected to be mlilitants on an oilfield in Bayelsa has recovered remains of two of the three oil workers that died in the incident.
The Commandment of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Bayelsa State, Mr Desmond Agu, confirmed the development to newsmen Saturday in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
The victims were two engineers and a diver who were on duty when the incident happened.
Agu said, “they were ambushed and killed in the creeks while repairing the pipelines of the Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) that were destroyed by the Niger Delta Avengers.
The NSCDC commandment disclosed that their remains had been taken to an undisclosed mortuary in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital.
“The search team, made up of NSCDC operatives, Navy, Army, gunboat crew and others, left Obama station at 0915 hours on Thursday in search of the Agip personnel.
“At about 1100 hours, the dead bodies of the two personnel were discovered in Oguama River, close to Oguama Community in Bayelsa State.
“They were taken to Ogbia jetty for onward movement to Port Harcourt,” he said.
It would be recalled that human suspected to be militants sympathetic to Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) had killed three oil workers at an oil field operated by Nigeria Agip Oil Company in Bayelsa State.
The new militant group-Niger Delta Avengers, had in May claimed responsibility for blowing up the facility.
Community sources said the incident occurred on Wednesday at the oilfield located in the creeks of Nembe around Obama flow station.
