Elechi Amadi, Store House Of Knowledge – VC
Acting Vice Chancellor of
the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Professor Joseph Kinanee, has described the late literary icon, Elechi Amadi as a store house of knolwege and a man of many parts.
Professor Kinanee, who stated this on Friday during a condolence visit to the families of the deceased, also noted that in spite of his science background, the late Amadi “did very well in Literacy Arts that he ventured into”.
While describing the demise of Elechi Amadi as painful, Professor Kinanee noted various parts the deceased had played in developing the current IAUE.
According to him, Elechi Amadi “was a distinguished scholar, one time Head of Department and Dean in the then Rivers State College of Education, and a man who mentored many, and served the institution meritoriously as well as contributed to its growth.
“The work that he left behind would continue to speak volumes for him, as well as impact positively on the lives of generations yet unborn”, he said.
While praying God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss, Kinanee promised that the university would not only identify with the family all through the period, but would start the process of immortalizing the deceased.
In his response, brother of the late Icon, Mr Nwobueze Amadi, thanked the IAUE delegation for the visit, adding that their presence was a source of encouragement and a way of energizing us to forge ahead.
“As a man of letters, my brother gave his entire being whenever the opportunity presented itself. I am delighted that his good deeds are speaking for him”, he said.
Also speaking, wife of the deceased, Direpreye Amadi, a lecturer and former Head of French Department, IAUE expressed appreciation to the management for the visit, saying that she was proud to be one of them.
Captain Elechi Amadi died on Wednesday June 29, 2016 at 82.
