NOA Links Crisis In Rivers To Cultism
The Rivers State Director
ate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has linked the crisis in Rivers State to cultism and gangsterism.
The State Director of the Agency, Mr. Oliver Wollugbom who said this in an interview with The Tide in his office in Port Harcourt, blamed the crisis on the Fight for supremacy by the various cult groups operating in the state.
Mr. Wollugbom described some of the cult groups as blood thirsty, adding that before now, they all existed in the university campuses.
He however said that because of the level of decadence in the society, most of these groups had moved to the villages to initiate rural people into their folds.
The NOA Director said that, it was wrong for people to link the crisis to politics, stressing that such insinuation would derail the process of proffering solutions to the problem.
According to him, proffering solutions to the crisis will involve the collaborations of all stakeholders, including the traditional institutions and the security agencies.
Mr. Wollugbom also stressed the need for the security agencies to improve their intelligence and networking with a view to tracking down the gangsters for prosecution.
The Director also urged the government to equip the security agencies with the necessary tools to carryout their duties, while local communities should support the security agencies with useful information on the activities of criminals.
He said that the National Orientation Agencies would continue to appeal to the youth to thread the path of peace in their own interest and in the interest of future generations.
