RSG Tasks PCRC On Crime Prevention
The Rivers State Minis
try of Youth Development has solicited the support of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and other organisations to check the rising level of youth restiveness in the state.
The Commissioner of Youth Development, Hon Princewill Ogbobula stated this, during a courtesy call by members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Zone Six in his office in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the future of the country is at stake, if nothing is done to reduce the rate of kidnapping, cultism and other forms of criminality in the society.
He assured that, the ministry would support the committee in its forthcoming capacity building programme for youths in the state by mobilising twenty youths from each of the 23 local government areas.
In his presentation, the Chairman of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Zone Six, Major. Gen. M.H. Nyoyoko (rtd) said that all hands must be on deck to check the astronomical increase in criminal activities in the zone.
Major. Gen. Nyoyoko ( rtd) who was represented by Elder Jeremiah Benjamin, said that the advocacy campaign carried out by the zone last year showed that the present enforcement approach in crime prevention had not yielded the desired result.
It is against this background that the Zone Six PCRC is pro-actively carrying out the primary stage of crime prevention programme in collaboration with some identified stakeholders.
“The PCRC zone six will partner with the Ministry of Youth Development to set up Police and Community Youth Club in communities in the zone, partner with Ministry of Education to set up PCRC clubs in schools, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs to establish fora that will drive confidence building programme between the youth and Traditional rulers as well as work with corporate organizations to leverage on their corporate social responsibilities”, he said.
High point of the event was the conferment of ambassadors’ award on the commissioner by the committee.
