Bayelsa Elders Want FG To Fish Out Pipeline Vandals
The Bayelsa State El
ders Council (BEC) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to deal with persons behind the recent attacks on major oil and gas pipelines in the Niger Delta region.
The council took the stand at a crucial meeting held in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, to review the state of the nation with particular attention to the rising attacks on oil and gas installations.
This position which was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting stressed the need for President Buhari to direct the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to justice under the rule of law.
It however pleaded with Buhari to prevent security operatives from destroying innocent communities under the guise of fishing out pipeline vandals.
The elders council equally called on the perpetrators to desist from further attacks on pipelines to avoid further damaging the economy of the state and the country in view of continuous fall of the crude oil price in the international market.
The communiqué also urged the Federal Government to exercise caution while making statements on the matter but to rather consult widely before making decisions on issues affecting the amnesty programme.
The communiqué was singed by the BEC chairman, Chief Francis Doukpolagha and the publicity secretary, Chief Thompson Okoriotie.
Some prominent Ijaw elders present at the meeting were HRH King Richard Seibarugu, Kubor, Ibenanaowei of Bassan Clan and HRM Joshua Igbagara, Ibenanaowe of Oyiakiri.
