Group Seeks Media Assistance To Fight Corruption
National President,
Buhari/Osibanjo Supporters Club, Dr David Benjamin, has called on media organisations to support the ongoing campaign against corruption by the Buhari-led administration.
Benjamin made the call on Sunday in Uyo while addressing journalists on the state of the nation.
He urged those in the print section to create ‘special columns’ in their newspapers and magazines to condemn and expose politicians and individuals with criminal and corrupt tendencies.
According to him, the media houses remain the only group that can help government win the current campaign against corruption.
He identified corruption, which he said had eaten deep into the fabric of the nation, as responsible for the non-payment of workers’ salaries in many states of the federation.
“The only group of people that can help fight this corruption and succeed is the media.
“The media has a major role to play in making our society a better place and can help by creating special columns and programmes in their media to expose corruption,” he said.
Benjamin said that the volume of money stolen by politicians was enough to build refineries.
It could also be expended to implement free-and-compulsory education policy for every Nigerian child from the primary school level up to the university level, he said.
He commended the media for its strategic role in stabilising democracy in the country.
Meanwhile, the Paramount Ruler of Eket in Akwa Ibom, Obong Edet Abia, has advised parents and guardians to be prudent while shopping for their children and wards for Christmas.
Abia told newsmen in Uyo that parents and guardians should remember that payment of school fees in January was behind the corner.
Parents and guardians should not be tempted to spend so much on their children and wards during Christmas only to find it very difficult paying their school fees in January, he said.
“Christmas is a periodic celebration; the current economic situation demands that every household in the country should cut down on their spending.
“My advice to parents and guardians is that they should always be prudent in their spending because there is scarcity of fund and inflation rate is high.
“Wisdom is required in all things we do now in order to keep our families together in love and peace,” he said.
Abia also advised wealthy Nigerians, including politicians and highly placed government officials, to stop displaying their wealth in public amidst thousands of unemployed youths.
He said that it was regrettable that the unemployed youths usually scramble for the money the rich always throw about during public functions
The paramount ruler said government as well as wealthy Nigerians at this time should be more concerned about the welfare of the citizens.
He said that the present economic realities in the country did not call for extravagance.
“The economic realities in the country at this moment require prudent management of our resources at the family and other levels of society so that we can move the country forward.

Make God Your Anchor To Fulfill Destiny, Cleric Charges Christians … As Jaja Marks 70th Birthday
The Lead Pastor at Jesus Appointed People’s Bible Church, Ozogbe, Ikwerrengwo-Etche, in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Pastor Promise Nwaelele, has urged Christians to make God the anchor of their lives in whatever position they find themselves, in order to attain the destinies set for them by God.
Pastor Nwaelele, who gave the charge recently in a sermon he preached at the 70th birthday anniversary thanksgiving service of Sir Donald Michael Jaja, a veteran journalist in Rivers State, said this is because any genuine child of God is a permanent target for destabilization and destruction by the devil.
Taking his text from the Bible book of Mark 4:16-17, the preacher stated that fulfilment in life for a child of God required faith, obedience to God’s word, humility and grace to withstand trials and temptations.
According to him, temptations and afflictions are bound to happen in the lives of those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
“No wonder the Bible said that those that endure till the end shall be saved”, he said.
The Clergyman said God prospers believers who are humble, not proud and conceited, and leads them to destiny fulfilment.
“David said in Psalm 51:17, that the sacrifices acceptable to God are a broken spirit, not an impatient or proud spirit”, the preacher said.
He called on Christians not to allow persecutions and afflictions to sway them from the love and blessings of Jesus Christ.
On his part, Jaja, a seasoned Journalist who retired as an Acting Editor of the Rivers State Government-owned The Tide Newspaper, gave thanks to God for honouring him by giving him the grace of attaining 70 years.
“I cannot capture what the good Lord has done for me in my entire life in this fleeting moment of thanksgiving. But, I know that without Him, I wouldn’t have been who I am today, in all spheres. Therefore, my joy knows no bounds as I give thanks to my creator today, alongside my family. Praise be His holy name”, Jaja said.
