Rotary Club To Spend N1.5m On School Toilet
The Rotary Club of
Port Harcourt South, District 9140, Nigeria, has set machinery in motion to build a four-room toilet for Community Secondary School, Abuloma, near Port Harcourt.
Performing the foundation laying ceremony on Saturday, the District Governor, District 9140, Nigeria, Rotarian Ijeoma Okoro, lauded the club for the initiative and thanked members for being true Rotarians.
Okoro in her charge to members, demanded that they unleash their passion for the good of the less-privileged and be a gift to the world.
She called on the community and school authorities to put the toilet to good use and protect it from vandalism and misuse.
In his address, President of the club, Rtn. Stanley Nsofor, stated that the decision to build a toilet for the school was borne out of the discovery that the students were using open defecation on one of his visits to the school.
Nsofor further explained that the project was in line with one of Rotary’s six areas of focus, including water and Sanitation.
He said the project cost is estimated at N1.5 million and is expected to be completed within six months.
Responding, the Principal of the school, Mr Samuel Deresoma, thanked the club for moving to meet the sanitary needs of the school and promised to ensure that the toilet was safe and always in good condition, while calling on other voluntary organisations to borrow a leaf from Rotary and render good services to society.
