CAN Tasks RSG On Youth Dev
The Christian Associa
tion of Nigeria (CAN), Youth Wing, Rivers State Chapter, has urged the state government to consider youth development as priority in its administration.
The state chairman of CAN, Youth Wing, Ekiye .C. Ekiye, made this call shortly after he was re-elected for a second term of three years at a delegates’ conference held at the CAN Secretariat in Port Harcourt over the weekend.
Ekiye averred that as potential leaders, government at all levels should evolve programmes that would equip and engage them for future tasks, adding that society can only be better when the youth are engaged in various aspects of human development.
He stated that no society could develop in an atmosphere of rancour, adding that youth, when properly engaged and empowered, have the potential to contribute to the development of the society.
The CAN youth chairman further used the opportunity to call on the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, to reconstitute the Pilgrims Welfare Board so as to give Christians in the state the opportunity to increase their spiritual talents, which according to him, will strengthen their faith as agents of development.
He assured the governor of the support of Christian youth in the state for his administration, even as he commended the governor on the going road rehabilitation within Port Harcourt metropolis and urged him to extend such to other local governments across the state.
Ekiye assured that he would not undermine the mandate given to him by the delegates, and promised to serve God and humanity in discharge of his duties.
The conference attracted delegates from denominations across the state, including the state chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Sokubo Sara-Igbe.
