NAN Commences TV News Production
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has commenced production of television news and documentaries to boost the informational capacity of television stations across the country and beyond.
NAN Managing Director, Mr. Ima Niboro, who announced the development on Tuesday in Abuja at a forum with a section of NAN stakeholders, said that the production was part of the Agency’s efforts to assist the growth and viability of the nation’s broadcast Media industry.
Niboro, who directed that the new products should be circulated up to the grassroots, stressed that the new NAN services would help to make developmental efforts of the Federal, State and Local governments more visible to the citizenry.
He noted that the NAN television content would also ultimately help broadcast media achieve reduction in their labour and production costs.
“The NAN TV news clips will cover events and happenings in all sectors, including politics, agriculture, aviation, defence/security, the economy, education, the judiciary, tourism and sports, as well as health and gender.
“Other areas are: oil and gas, entertainment, stock exchange data reports, the National and State Houses of Assembly and the Presidency”, Niboro said, adding that the Agency’s Multimedia Unit has been repositioned and is being currently upgraded to achieve the objectives.
He stated that the dissemination of television content was crucial for the mobilization of Nigerians in support of the change agenda of the Federal Government as well as other national and international developmental agencies.
“NAN has hundreds of reporters and correspondents across the nooks and crannies of Nigeria, and through their efforts, the populace are made aware of growth and development in the country,” the Managing Director said.
Niboro assured its stakeholders that, “like all other NAN services, the television news and documentaries would be of international standard and would delight Nigerian television broadcast industry”.
NAN, established in 1976, is the largest purely news media outfit in Nigeria, servicing more than 90 per cent of the country’s mass media, both electronic and print, by providing more than 50 per cent of their content.
