A Port Harcourt-based businessman, Mr Ernest Chidozie, has appealed to the Rivers State Ministry of Transport to take action against those who violate government order on state colours for commercial vehicles in the state.
Chidozie who is the Managing Director of Dozy Motor Transport said this an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt on Monday.
The Managing Director said, “the number of commercial buses and taxis without the official state colour is more than those with the colour. Infact, out of every five vehicles operating commercially, three disregard the order.”
According to him, this could be attributable to the fact that the agency responsible for the implementation of the directive has become very weak, as it only watches helplessly while such an important state order was being flouted daily.
The transport operator said the trend could aid kidnapping and other criminal activities common in the present society and urged the agencies responsible for implementation to wake up to their responsibility.
He also called for the collaboration of the transport unions and motor transport operators, Federal Road Safety Commission, the police amongst others towards checking the trend.
Chidozie stressed the need for closer monitoring of transport activities in the present society because of the growing criminal activities.
