Ogoni Day: MOSOP Pledges To Work With FG On UNEP Report
The Movement for the
survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has pledged to work with the Federal Government and other agencies to ensure the implementation of the United Nations Enviornment Programme (UNEP) Report on the oil pollution of Ogoniland.
The movement stated this during this year’s Ogoni Day celebration at Bori headquarters of Khana local government Area.
Publicity Secretary of MOSOP Mr Bari Ara Kpalap told The Tide in a telephone interview that the focus of the Ogoni Day celebration was on the implementation of the report to ensure that the area is free of pollution.
According to him, because of the importance of the cleanup exercise, the MOSOP leadership is working relentlessly to ensure its success.
He stated that the people are looking forward towards the fulfillment of the Federal Government promises to the people beginning from this January 2015.
“We are looking forward towards the fulfillment of the Federal Government promises to commence the cleanup this January.
“Mosop is praying that government fulfill its promises”, he said.
According to him, the movement is ready to mobilize the people to participate in the process of the cleanup, stressing that a committee to that effect has been setup.
He, however, said that should the Federal Government reneged on its promises, the movement will use all means to get the report implemented.
Mr Kpalap also denied knowledge of any oil bunkering activities in the area.
