NSCDE Tasks Security Guards On Intelligence Reports
As part of measures to ef
fectively combat crime and stem the growing spate of insecurity in Nigeria, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDEC), has charged security guards working in various organisation security to be vigilant and proactive in intelligence reports and information gathering on neighbourhood security.
The Rivers State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSDC), Helen Amakiri, gave the charge in Port Harcourt, last weekend, during the passing out parade of over 135 security guards from various organisations trained by the NSCDC.
The Rivers State Commandant, who spoke with The Tide during the passing out parade, said training of security guards was part of the constitutional responsibilities of the NSCDC, and urged the beneficiaries of the training to apply the skills learnt in the discharge of their duties. Commandant Amakiri, who described the trainees as the closet security operatives to the grassroots cautioned against collaboration with politicians and other criminal elements and urged them to contribute their quota on national security.
She called for a synergy between the Association of Licensed Private Guards Practitioners of Nigeria (APAN), other security outfits and the NSCDC to ensure the security of lives and properties.
She also thanked the Rivers Command of the Nigeria Prison Service (NPS) for availing them the facilities for the training. In his remark, the Rivers State Comptroller of Prison, Ondoma Patrick, commended the NSCDC for their effort in tackling security challenges in the society, and called for greater collaboration among security outfit to check insurgency and terrorism in Nigeria.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Association of Licensed Private Guard Practitioners of Nigeria (APAN), squadron Leader Ordu-Obuah (rtd) assured the commitment of the association in living up to its objectives, and called on the trainees to be worthy ambassadors of their various organizations.
Presenting the certificates of participation to the trainees, the Head of Department Private Guard Companies, (NSCDC), Vincent Orgu, asked the trainees to expose criminals by applying the basic security skills acquired. Speaking on behalf of the trainees, a beneficiary, Favour Bassey, expressed appreciation over the training and assured that the basic skills acquired would be judiciously applied.

Rivers High Court Restrain Trustees, Knights of St. John International, Others From Conducting Election
The High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has restrained the registered trustees of Knights of St John International, Supreme Subordinate Commandery, Nigeria, and four others from conducting elections into Our Lady of Holy Rosary Local Commandery No 920 CIWA, Port Harcourt, District 48 Commandery elections, and Supreme Subordinate elections of the Knights of St John International, Nigeria, pending the determination of the substantive matters before them.
Justice G.C. Aguma and Justice V.C. Ugoji, in their separate interim orders of injunction issued in Suit No: PHC/4410/CS/2025 and Suit No: PHC/4359/CS/2025, respectively, restrained the defendants, whether by themselves, their privies, agents, servants, or any person or group of persons working under them, from conducting elections into Our Lady of Holy Rosary Local Commandery No 920, CIWA Port Harcourt, District 48 Commandery, Port Harcourt Commandery, and Supreme Subordinate of Knights of St John International, Nigeria.
The claimants, Sir Njoku Chukwuemeka Andrew and Sir Chukwuemeka Martin Mba, in separate suits, through their legal representatives, dragged the defendants to court, seeking an order to restrain them from appointing or installing any interim caretaker executive or leadership to run or pilot the affairs of St John International, Our Lady of Holy Rosary Local Commandery No 920, CIWA, Port Harcourt.
The defendants in the matter are: Registered Trustees of Knights of St John International, Supreme Subordinate Commandery, Nigeria; Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Ufuoma Okene, the Grand President, Port Harcourt Grand Commandery, Knights of St John International; Noble Brother Viktor Benebo, the Chairman Investigation Committee set up by the 2nd Defendant to investigate the claimants; Sir Architect Prempeh Ebiware, the District 48 Commander, Knights of St John International, Port Harcourt; and Sir Harry Oruma, member of Knights of St John International, Our Lady of Holy Commandery No 920, CIWA, Port Harcourt.
The two judges, after listening to the counsels in the matter, granted the claimants’ request and adjourned the matter to 10/12/2025 and 16/12/2025, respectively, for hearing of the motion on notice.
