Edeoha And 2015
Unity is a prelude to development in any given
society, hence development cannot thrive in any region or society where there is chaos, disunity or lack of patriotism. It is said that where the people unite, they come up with an ideology of societal peace and development and this synergy is a powerful tool that drives the willingness towards ensuring that the society is a better place to be. It also ensures that the people have a common voice towards agitating for their right and protecting their interest.
Similarly, election periods are seen as a podium where leaders are chosen into various elective positions. And where the people are united they can enforce through the instrumentally of the right to vote and be voted for, their demands for a better society and ensure that all regions are given effective representation and voice in government so as to reflect the interest of all.
Edeoha as a community in Ahoada East local government in Rivers State, despite its geographical size and political relevance has been underdeveloped and remained so due to lcak of unity among her sons and daughters in protecting their political interest and advancing development of their region (community).
From time immemorial, no Edeoha son or daughter has assumed leadership positions such as local government chairman, state House of Assembly or other important positions. It is regrettable to note that despite the role of Edeoha community in the affairs and political spectrum of Ahoada East, the community has been lagging behind frontiers especially in relation to the fact that other lesser/smaller communities have all produced persons in high political positions and set up.
The people of Edeoha have not benefited in the political realm in Ahoada East local government area and this has led to slow pace development in the community. Most times, community projects embarked upon are not completed and are handled with a high level of mediocrity , thus making the community a symbol of ridicule from neighbouring communities and individuals. A number of these abandoned projects which could have benefitted the community in great magnitude include, the Garri industrial unit, the ultra modern market and the new model base school which was awarded four years ago by the state government, but is still less than 30 per cent completed, whereas similar schools in other communities have been fully completed and put into use for the education of their people. Till date, the contractor has absconded with mobilization fee and no prominent Edeoha-son or daughter has challenged this gross social, academic and economic sabotage to the community. This has completely taken the community further backward in all areas of human existence.
The community youths are not spared in the raging wave of unemployment and poverty as lots of them do not have meaningful means of livelihood as they struggle to put up with the demands of daily livelihood and most predominantly motorcycle riders while others are left with nothing worthwhile to engage in. Hence the need for all sons and daughters of Ekpeye to join hands to foster the much needed development in the community by rising up to the challenges that have bewildered Edeoha community over the years. Also, the year 2015, being an election year affords us more opportunity to ensure that credible persons are put in positions of governance and that the interest of the community in its entirety is properly represented. Thus it is only imperative that we have a common and united voice come 2015 election so as to project our community’s interest and ensure rapid development because united we stand and divided we fall.
