Abe Charges Yorubas On Unity, Peace
The Senator representing
Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe has enjoined the Yoruba community in Rivers State to remain united and peaceful.
Abe made the call while speaking at the 2014 Yoruba Week and launching of her N500 million multi-purpose building (Yoruba House) held at Civic Centre, Port Harcourt at the weekend.
He said the Yoruba community was one of the most peaceful and progressive communities in Rivers State that had contributed immensely to the development of the state.
According to him, Nigeria is made up of different ethnic groups and commended them for remembering their roots even here in Rivers State.
The Senator noted that he was delighted to be part of the event of the building of a Yoruba House in Rivers State and assured them of his support at all times.
Senator Abe in an interview with journalists later said the action of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal and some members of the House was not an embarrassment or show of shame, stressing that no one has the right to stop them from going into the Assembly complex to discuss the problems of Nigeria.
In his speech, Eze Robinson O. Robinson, Eze Ekpeye Logbo also commended the Yoruba community in Rivers State for their unity and initiative, saying that he was satisfied with the cordial relationship between the people of Ahoada and the Yoruba community in Rivers State.
In his keynote address, the President –General of Odua Peoples Congress (OPC), Dr Ganiyu urged them to remain steadfast and see themselves as ambassadors of the Yoruba race in Rivers State and maintain the good virtues of their forefathers, adding that they should be good citizens and contribute to the development of Yoruba nation and Nigeria in general.
