NSPRI Boss Seeks Patronage Of Products
The Officer-In-
Charge, Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI), Port Harcourt, Mr Simon Roberts, has called on members of the public to avail themselves of the services of the institute.
Roberts who spoke to our correspondent yesterday in his office in Port Harcourt said the main objective of the federal parastalal was proffering solutions to food wastage through research.
According to him, those who benefit most from its services include farmers, traders, fishermen and fruits sellers, amongst others.
He said wastage occasioned by transporting fruits from the northern part of the country has been reduced drastically through the use and storage of fruits by using ventilated cretes produced by NSPRI.
The NSPRI boss said a wide range of appliances were available to the public for free as the organisation does not charge fees for their services.
Roberts who is a food technologist said one of the major factors impeding research effort was power even as he called for improved funding to enable the institute carry out its required obligation to the public.
He said so far, much of the improvements going on at the Port Harcourt office was due to the prudent management of meager resources at the disposal of the organisation.
He further adviced members of the public to avoid the processes of hastening fruits’ maturity like mangos and bananas amongst others as they were unwholesome practices.
“It is better to avail yourselves to the services of NSPRI in preservation of products “, he said.
