FRSC Prosecutes 74 Traffic Offenders In Benin
The Edo State FRSC Sec
tor Command said yesterday that it prosecuted 74 motorists for various traffic offences during the Sallah holidays.
Those prosecuted included a bus driver, Osas Osarunwenbo, who was sentenced to one month imprisonment for abduction and assault.
The sector commander, Mr Oluwasusi Familoni, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Benin.
Familoni said that the arraignments were done at a mobile court that sat at Ramat Park in Benin.
“The special mobile court was held on October 7 at Ramat Park to prosecute traffic offenders and ensure safety on the roads during the Sallah celebration.
“A total of 74 traffic offenders were arrested and arraigned before the mobile court; 69 of the offenders were convicted while five others were discharged,’’ he said.
The commander said the court sentenced Osarunwenbo to a one month imprisonment for abducting and assaulting an FRSC officer with a spade.
He said the officer attempted to arrest the culprit for disobeying road traffic rules when he was attacked.
Familoni warned motorists to desist from violating traffic rules so as to reduce the rate of auto crashes on highways.
He also advised drivers to desist from disobeying road traffic law enforcement officers, saying it was a punishable offence.
