2015 Elections Will Be Violence-Free -Ateke
The leader of the Niger
Delta Vigilantee Group (NDVG), High Chief Ateke Micheal Tom, has expressed optimism that that 2015 general elections will be smooth and peaceful in Rivers State.
High Chief Tom gave the assurance last Wednesday as he joined the rest of Nigerians in celebrating 54th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence, and his 5th amnesty anniversary in Okirika, the headquarter of Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to him, “2015 election would be free and fair, violence-free and peaceful, no youth of this state will be deceived to carry any gun or used as political thug in this state”.
“Many people worry that 2015 election will be bloody but I am very optimistic that election in this state will be violence-free, and it would be fair”, he added.
High Chief Ateke Tom described his recent voters education sensitisation tour in Okrika and Port Harcourt local government areas as part of the effort to ensure a non-violent election come 2015.
He called on politicians and political parties to guard their utterances and approaches, as well as expunge violence and rigging of elections from their political plans towards 2015 election in the state.
He also called on governments at all levels and security agencies to provide level playing field for aspirants and electorate to exercise their civic rights and stressed the need for the unity and progress of the country.
The ex-militant leader also warned Rivers youths not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to cause trouble in the state.
“I am celebrating the 5th Amnesty day in conjunction with Nigeria’s independence anniversary to remind you, especially youths in Niger Delta that you have entered agreement with the Federal Government to maintain peace in the region”, he said.
