Semenitari Empowers 24 Women In Okrika
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari has presented cash donations to 24 women from Okrika local Government Area as part of her empowerment programme in the area.
The beneficiaries were drawn from the 12 Wards in the area.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Sir Tony Okocha said that the Chibuike Amaechi-led government was committed to the wellbeing of the people.
Okocha said that the gesture by the Commissioner was in line with the administration’s commitment to the economic empowerment of the people of Okrika and others in the state, and urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the packages to improve their conditions.
The Commissioner for information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari said that the gesture was in continuation of her empowerment programme for women and other vulnerable groups in the area.
Mrs Semenitari said that the goal of the programme was to check poverty and create opportunities for the people to realize their economic potentials.
She said that some indigent people were given food, while in 2011, a number of women were equipped with the necessary tools for trading.
Semenitari also said that she brought transformers to the area in 2012.
Meanwhile, Mrs Semenitari has called on the people to be cautious against the spread of the dreaded Ebola virus.
She said that people must maintain the highest level of hygiene, and assured of government’s commitment to sensitise the people against the virus.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
