Youths in the state have
been charged to refrain from the use of brain and behaviour impairing substances in order to achieve their aspirations in life.
The United Nations Ambassador for Peace, Chief Ambassador Christian Duruoma stated this in an address to mark the United Nations International Youth Day celebration in Port Harcourt recently.
Addressing a cross section of youths, Ambassador Duruoma said the youths are the future leaders of the state and should be given adequate and better moral values, civil, social, and academic training to lead and manage the country in due course, adding that only youths with good mental health will cater for a vast segment of the society.
Speaking to newsmen, the spokesman of the International Association of World Peace Advocate, Ambassador Emmanuel Nweke said they decided to hold the programme in Port Harcourt because Rivers State is currently the World Book Capital.
Ambassador Nweke said the organisation had concluded plans to introduce schools to impart to the youths’ knowledge of International Freedom and Policies, stressing that this would be done through data collection of the various youths.
According to him, what Nigerian youths need is information and the right platform to explore their God-given talents and advised them on the need to stay healthy.
The event featured presentation of awards to individuals who excelled in various fields.
One of the recipients of the award of Ambassador for Peace, Dr Benjamin Worgu thanked the organisers of the programme for the honour done him, and promised to support the body in future programmes.
