Speaking at a one day Eastern Delta Youths Conference organised by Eastern Delta People’s Association in Port Harcourt. Mrs Semenitari also urged the youths to give an intellectual angle to their struggle by ensuring that the under-development in the creeks is told to the world.
The commissioner who listed the South-South and North-East regions of Nigeria as having the highest percentages of inactive population of youths in the country said that this situation can be translated to productive ventures.
Chairman of the occasion, Professor Owunari Georgewill said that the issue is about a Riverine Governor in 2015.
Professor Georgewill also said that equity and Justice demand for a Riverine Governor in 2015.
According to him, since the return to democratic rule in 1999, no Eastern Delta Ijaw person has occupied the Brick House, arguing that it is just and equitable for them to be considered for the position this time.
On her part, the Executive Director of the Centre of Development and Support Initiative (CEDSI), Mrs Mina Ogbanga urged Eastern Delta youths to seek for knowledge as well as network with other groups across the country.
Ogbaga said that the era of violent struggle is gone, noting that this is time to network with others across the zone.
A communiqué issued at the end of the conference urged for synergy among the people of Eastern Delta Ijaw.
It also called on all political parties to present an Ijaw flag bearer for the Governorship of Rivers State in 2015.
