ATCON Boss Identifies Challenges Of ICT
The Nigerian Communi
cations Commission (NCC) has been advised to carry out a thorough study to find out why some Information and Communications Technology(ICT) companies were dying.
The former President of the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Mr Titi Omo-Ettu, gave the advice recently in a media interview in Port Harcourt.
He said that embarking on such study would indicate whether the dying companies needed some kinds of bail out from the NCC.
Omo-Ettu, noted that the study should be carried out in the interest of the ICT-sector, so that it could continue to contribute meaningfully to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country.
The former ATCON boss pointed out that some ICT companies might be closing down due to managerial faults, while others might be as a result of the business environment.
The present President of ATCON, Mr Lanne Ajayi, also noted that the reduction of ICT companies had always worried the association.
According to him, the association has done all within its reach to ensure that government policies were favorable to its members.
He hinted that they were yet to contact the government over the dying ICT companies, adding that it would soon be discussed at its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
Ajayi, further, gave details on other issues concerning the dying ICT companies, saying that it would also find out genuine reasons why such companies should be bailed out.
Meanwhile, the first Vice-President of the association (ATCON), Mr Olusola Teniola, has blamed part of the challenges in the ICT sector on what he described as multiple taxation and Fight of Way (RoW), saying that it was among some issues facing the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the industry.
