VC Warns Fresh Students Against Cultism
The Vice-Chancel
lor of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Prof. Cordelia Agbebaku, has warned the newly-admitted students for the 2013/2014 academic session to shun cultism.
Agbebaku gave the warning at an orientation programme organised for them, which was held at the institution.
She said that the authorities would not hesitate to rusticate any student found engaging in such illegal activities, adding that cultism was an avenue to self destruction.
“As fresh students, we enjoin you to shun cultism, because cult membership is an avenue to self-destruction.
“The management of the institution frowns at membership of cult groups. Be careful of the company you keep and the clubs and societies you belong to.
“Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, frowns at any conduct or behaviour that is immoral, dishonest or disloyal.
“Also, the university condemns in its totality, any destructive behaviour on the part of students and/or infringement of the rules and regulations of the university.
“Every student is expected to display a high standard of personal integrity and morality and must use constitutional means at all times,’’ she said.
The Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Isaac Aigbedion, in a paper entitled: “The Evils of Secret Cult Activities in Our Institution and Society,’’ said besides expulsion from the school, cult members risk early death.
Aigbedion enjoined them to resist pressures from cultists, and to report any of such cases to the school authority for action.
Other issues addressed at the orientation programme included morality/immorality, use of the Library, student conduct/discipline, and course registration/school fees payment procedure.
