Group Holds Special Prayers On Good Governance
Over 1,000 members of a
political pressure group, known as Rivers Dynamic Forum (RIVDF) yesterday gathered at the All Saints Anglican Cathedral in Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area, for a special prayer session and intercession for the promotion and sustenance of good governance in Rivers State and Nigeria in general.
Addressing the mamoth crowd at Bori, president of the organization, Comrade Prince Moris, said the move was to re-dedicate the state to God to forestall a recurrence of the political crisis that rocked the state in the recent past.
Comrade Morris said the organization was committed to build a sustainable peace process that would engender productivity in governance.
He commended the endearing legacies of good governance demonstrated by the Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi in Rivers State.
Speaking as a guest preacher at the event, the president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Rivers South-East Senatorial Zone, Rev Justus Pinah said the special intercession was apt, especially as the nation was about to enter into another period of political transition.
Rev Pinah, who is also the Chaplain of Gokana local government area, commended the organizers for their initiative and urged the body to sustain its vision of promoting good governance in the state.
Also speaking, another guest preacher, Pastor Moses Monsi, called on political leaders to also embrace God for divine inspiration.
He said the prayer network should be sustained to pave way for good leadership and dividends of democracy in Rivers State.
In their separate speeches, the coordinators of RIVDF in Gokana and Khana Local Government Areas, Comrades Nsan Darlinton and Kenneth Nwitoh, said the body would take the good governance campaign to all nooks and cranies of Rivers State.
The woman leader, Esther Felix, who spoke with The Tide shortly after the event emphasised the need for women to participate actively in the political process in line with the 35 per cent affirmative action.
