300 Traders Benefit From Free Eye Screening
Not less than 300 traders
both women and men from Rumuwoji Mile 1 Market in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Council have benefitted from a free eye screening exercise conducted by Lions Club, District 404 A-Z Nigeria in Port Harcourt.
The zonal chairman of the club, Lion Theophillus Sado said that the screening exercise was part of activities commemorating the World Sight Day.
Lion Sado said that apart from the screening exercise, the club will provide medication, free eye glasses and other supports to those find to have eye defects, noting that the exercise which was in line with the objective of the International Lions Club is being carried simultaneously by all zones across the country.
He said that the club has carried out several humanitarian activities across the country, some of which include; the construction of boreholes in communities in the country, campaign against HIV/Aids as well as campaign against diabetis.
Also speaking, the zone I.B. Chairperson, Lioness Sarah Walter George said that Lions Club has continued to touch the lives of many people across the world.
George said that the free eye screening exercise will enable the traders to know the condition of their eyes with the view to embarking on treatment.
She described the exercise as a major focus of the club this month, noting that last month hand washing hygiene and deworming exercise were carried out in some schools in the state, while plans are underway to embark on diabetic sensitisation programme.
In his speech, the President Port Harcourt New Garden City Lions Club, Lion Aaron Levi described the programme as first of its kind in the city.
Levi thanked the traders for their massive turnout for the programme end stressed the need for them to embark on regular eye test. Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to newsmen thanked the club for the gesture and enjoined others to emulate it.
