There seems to be no trace yet for the kidnapped Cross River State Deputy Governor’s father, Etubom Essien Cobham and his brother, Etubom Otu Akabom kidnapped last weekend by unknown gunmen in their place of abode.
As at the time of going to press, efforts made by our correspondent to hear from either the State Security Service (SSS)  or the state police command on the issue proved abortive as no one was ready to comment on the matter yet, even as no particular group has claimed responsibility of the act.
It would be recalled that the father of the deputy governor of Cross River State, Efiok Cobham, Etubom Essien Cobham, was last Friday morning kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Creek Town Odukpani Local Government Area.
Cobham and one his relations, Akabom, were said to have been abducted at about 1am on that fateful day, in their house.
It was gathered the house of the Director General of the State Security Service (SSS), who is from the area, Mr. Ita Ekpenyong, was vandalised.
Government officials had kept mute over the situation, but residents of the area who witnessed the incident said the gunmen were shooting sporadically.
It was gathered that the gunmen gained access to the area through the Calabar River in two speedboats in the wee hours of the fateful day, as they even had a dog with them it was learnt.
The gunmen abducted Cobham, who is in his eighties, without any resistance it was learnt, as the man had no security attached to him. They also made away in the same way they came.
The State Police Public Relations Officer Mr. Hogan Bassey, has since confirm the incident, but quickly said, “for security reasons, I can’t tell you what we are doing to rescue him”.
Creek Town is mostly assessable from Calabar the state capital by the river, as the road leading to the community is in poor condition. The community is about 20 minutes from the state capital by the river and one and a half hours by road.
