LG Boss Tasks Politicians On Unity
Nigerian politicians have been tasked to channel their resources towards charity works and improving the lots of the down trodden masses in the society, rather than flaunting excessive wealth and engaging in political bickering.
Wife of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Phalga, Nwonwereoma Akarolo, gave the charge in Port Harcourt last weekend while presenting some items to the compassion Centre, Nkpogu, and the Port Harcourt Children Home, Borikiri, in Port Harcourt.
She hinted that, majority of Nigerians live in abject penury, while the privilege few among the political class live in opulence and give a passive concern to the plight of the down trodden masses.
According to her, the only way of giving back to the society that made the Burgeous class is to impact on the lives of the ordinary Nigerian and the vulnerable ones who live on the lower wrung of the poverty ladder.
She said the gesture was to give care and concern to the inmates of the homes to alleviate their plight.
The chairman’s wife also canvassed for proper medicare and education of the inmates, especially the children.
Responding, the child care co-ordinator of the compassion centre, Nkpogu, Port Harcourt, rev. sister Chioma Eze said the entre was run by religion organsiations and sustained by peoples generosity and pointed out that the centre was open to vulnerable children and adults from all parts of the country.
She lauded the Phalga team for the visit and assured that the items donated would be judiciously used for the upkeep of the inmates.
She called on public spirited individuals and corporate organisation to assist the homes for proper upkeep, and render assistance to the inmates who need surgical operation. Items donated include, bags of rice, detergents, toiletries and beverages.
