… As Group Hails Intervention
A socio-political organisation, the “Gokana Progressive” has lauded the National Assembly (NASS) for its position on the political crisis in Rivers State.
The president of the organisation, Hon. Christian Giami, who made the commendation while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, Thursday, noted that the intervention by the National Assembly would end the political crisis in the state.
Giami described the pandemonium that erupted in the state House of Assembly last Tuesday as a show of shame and accused the five anti-Amaechi lawmakers of acting out the script of some selfish Abuja-based politicians.
He described the purported impeachment of the speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Otelemaba Amachree by the five anti-Amaechi as laughable, noting that there was no where in the world, where five persons can be said to have impeached the speaker of a 32-member House of Assembly.
He likened Amachree’s purported impeachment by the five lawmakers to the Governors Forum Election in Abuja where Governor Jang who lost has been parading himself as chairman.
The former House of Representatives aspirant for Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency opined that section 11, subsection (4) of the 1999 Nigerian constitution gives the National Assembly the powers to take over the duties of any State House of Assembly engulfed with crisis.
Giami also hailed the resolution of the House of Representatives requesting the redeployment of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu whom they accused of performing below expectations.
He expressed satisfaction with Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, and Representative Andrew Uchendu, representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency for courageously drawing the attention of the National Assembly to the political crisis in the state and called on all lovers of democracy in Nigeria and the state in particular to rise up to challenge the injustice being meted out to Rivers State governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
Giami traced the political crisis in the state to the aftermath of the NGF election and called on all true democrats to rise up and defend the country’s hard earned democracy.
He regretted that Rivers State, which has been a peaceful state since Governor Chibuike Amaechi took over the mantle of leadership six years ago, is gradually returning to a war zone due to the activities of the anti-Amaechi loyalists in the state, and assured the governor of the unwavering support of his people which according to him, would never be compromised.
