NSCDC Impounds Trucks, Arrests 9 Over Fake Products
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has impounded three trucks loaded with adulterated petroleum products and arrested nine suspects in Akwa Ibom State.
The State Commandant, NSCDC, Mr Pedro Ideba, said on Tuesday in Uyo that the nine suspects were arrested after a tip off.
He said that two trucks were impounded with adulterated kerosene behind the NNPC mega station in Uyo while one was impounded at Champion Brewery with adulterated diesel.
“The two trucks originally were loaded with kerosene (DPK) and adulterated the product with some other chemicals and were going to supply to Julius Berger Plc in Uyo. We also impounded a tanker loaded with petroleum products suspected to be diesel which was adulterated and driven into Champion Brewery on Aka road in Uyo. “Through a tip off, our men had to impound the three trucks and nine men were arrested,” he said.
He promised that the nine suspects would be arraigned in the court after investigation.
The state commandant further said that in the last one month, the command sealed off one filling station by Ibiakpan Junction in Ikot Ekpene which was used to dispense adulterated products.
Ideba said that the station had been abandoned but the tank compartment was used for storing adulterated petroleum products.
The commandant urged members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious character to the law enforcement agency nearest to them.
On the illegal private security in the state, the commandant warned the operators to adhere strictly to the law establishing the operations of private guard companies in the country.
He said that the command had sealed off one company, FECU Security Services Company, in Ikot Ekpene, adding that the company had been operating illegally for many years.
He warned that any company operating without approved licence would be sealed off, advising them to formalise their registration immediately.
