NDDC Establishes Specialist Hospital In A’Ibom
Stakeholders in health have been called to provide an enabling environment to make safe motherhood a reality.
Making a presentation at this year’s Safe Motherhood Day on the theme, “Every Woman Counts, Mrs Queen Pepple, stated that if all stakeholders would join hands together to make safe motherhood a reality, maternal mortality rate would drastically reduce.
Pepple used the opportunity to reiterate government policy on free health care for all to encourage pregnant women to avail themselves the benefits of the Rivers State government’s free medical programme, urging them to register for antenatal and deliver their babies free in the Primary Health Centres in their area.
In his addresse, the chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, where the programme was hosted, Theodore Georgwill, promised to partner with the state government through the state Ministry of Health to help educate women on how safe motherhood could be achieved.
The chairman, who spoke through the supervisor for health in the area, Tubotamuno Dabin, advised pregnant women and nursing mothers on safe motherhood.
In her own remarks, Director, Pubic Health in the state Ministry of Health, Ibinabo Ishmael applauded the women for their turn-out and charged them appreciate government efforts in providing affordable and accessible healthcare, by using them correctly.
In the highpoint was HIV screening for both expectant and nursing mothers and the distribution of gift items to all participants.
