Rainstorm Wrecks Havoc In Etche
The people of Okudu, Umuochamba and Umuayara communities of Mba in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State are counting their losses as the early morning rainstorm of last Saturday deroofed buildings and destroyed economic trees in the area.
Our reporter who visited the area Saturday afternoon said farm crops , economic trees as well as two buildings were damaged by the storm.
Chief Michael Nwokoshole, one of the victims told The Tide that plaintain suckers fell in their thousands, coconut trees, pears trees were mostly affected.
“We have not experienced this kind of rainstorm for some years now. The development is a draw back to the people”, he said and appealed to government to support the victims who ate mainly farmers.
Chief Nwokoshole further disclosed that heavy flooding in the communities due to abandoned drainage work on the new Afara/ Mba Road had added more to his people’s pains.
He explained that the contractor abandoned the drainage which used to be part of the road project in the area, hence, houses and other physical structures were at risk.
The traditional ruler appealed to the governor of Rivers state, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi to come to the people’s rescue
