Easter: IG Orders Tight Security

Today is Good Friday, a day observed by Christiansdom to mark the crucification of Jesus Christ.

For this reason, the Federal Government has announced today and Monday next week as public holidays to mark the Easter celebration.

In line with this, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, has directed Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police in charge of states to ensure adequate security throughout the Easter celebration.

In his Easter message yesterday, Abubakar directed them to ensure that measures were taken to protect worshippers, travellers, holiday makers, as well as the public during the period.

“Command Commissioners of Police are to personally ensure that key and vulnerable points in their jurisdictions, including places of worship, recreation centres, motor parks, highways and financial institutions are adequately protected.’’

The IG wished Christians and other Nigerians a peaceful celebration and urged them to emulate the selfless attitude of Christ.

Abubakar reminded them that Christ ‘s victorious resurrection on Easter Day was preceded by painful crucifixion to redeem mankind.

He also called for “open-mindedness to issues of forgiveness, peace and harmonious co-existence in consonance with the teachings of Christ, especially at this trying moment in the history of our dear country. ’’

Abubakar stressed the need for patience, understanding and cooperation with the police in the fight against crime and solicited for useful information to track down undesirable elements in the society.

He said that some police officers like Jesus had paid the supreme price while others were being subjected to all forms of dangers and deprivations in the line of duty for the peace, unity and progress of the country.

The IG commended the officers for their courage, dedication and selfless service to the nation, especially in the face of the current challenges.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”

She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.

A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.
