Cabs Get Ultimatum On Rivers Colours
The Rivers State Government has directed all commercial drivers in the state to paint their vehicles in the state colours of blue white blue before the end of February 2013.
The Commissioner for Transport, Hon. George Tolofari, gave this warning in a meeting he had with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Traffic Management Authority (TIMARIV), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and the Vehicle Inspection Unit (VIO) of the ministry.
The commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Somiari Isaac-Harry warned that by the end of February 2013 any commercial vehicle that was not painted with the state colours would be arrested and prosecuted by TIMARIV or other security agents.
He urged the transport union to encourage all its members to go for the eye and hypertension test for this is a safety measure practiced in developed countries.
Hon. Tolofari reiterated that by the end of February any commercial vehicle that is not road worthy, risks arrest and prosecution by the vehicle inspection unit of the ministry. He advised all those commercial drivers who block Olu-Obasanjo Road, Water Lines Junction, Rumuola Junction and Accra Street to desist from such as TIMARIV are out to arrest and prosecute defaulters.
