Expectations High As Sharks Resume Training
Assistant Coach
of Sharks FC, Port Harcourt, Mr Dabo-Ere Dokubo has expressed optimism that the
club would go places in the forth coming football season.
According to the coach, who was on hand
to receive the club’s players returning from recess on Monday, the club resumed
full training for the new season on Monday and is expecting fruitful outing in
the 2013 Premier league and Federation Cup season.
He said that his expectations were that
the players would have returned in good condition, physically and mentally
ready for the challenges ahead having had enough rest during the yuletide.
‘We believe expecting that the players
haven rested during the festive period are back psychologically okay to face
the 2013 season. We have commenced training for the first time
this year and hope to have a glorious outing this year as our expectation is
still in tact”, he said Coach Dokubo is delighted that some of the teething
problems the team encountered during training sessions last year have now been
resolved.
“From what the GM and the welfare
officer of the club said, the broken down bus has now been repaired and the
brand new one promised the team will soon get to us, the camp is ready and the
things that will make the players
comfortable in camp have been put in place”, Dokubo said.
Though confidence level is still as
high during the first phase of camping, the assistant coach of the Blues
Angels, of Port Harcourt noted that if the commitment of the sponsor’s remains
one hundred per cent, Sharks will certainly meet its goals this season.
“Confidence has not dropped but if all
that is required is put in place for the players, training equipment is made
available and everybody puts in his best
from management to players then the confidence had last year of a silver
ware based on the caliber of players will be attained.

Iwobi Optimistic On S’Eagles Qualification
Iwobi spoke to Tidesports source ahead of Nigeria’s crunch playoff semi-final against Gabon on Thursday, November 13, in Rabat, Morocco.
The 28-year-old was reacting to Nigeria’s shaky World Cup qualifying campaign that saw the Eagles finish second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“We’ve managed to rescue ourselves from the dead,” Iwobi told Tidesports source.
We know we have the players and the abilities to compete against any other country in the world.”
The Fulham star pointed to Nigeria’s star power, highlighting African Footballer of the Year winners Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen as proof of the squad’s quality.
“We have last year’s African best player (Ademola Lookman), the year before that (Victor Osimhen),” he said.
“It’ll be a shame if we don’t make it, but we have a lot of confidence. We just have to prove it to ourselves.”
Nigeria’s path to the United States, Canada and Mexico has been turbulent, with two coaches departing during the early stages of qualifying before Éric Chelle steadied the ship to steer the Super Eagles into November’s CAF playoffs.
Four nations from the continent – Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo and Gabon – will vie for a solitary spot to compete in next March’s inter-confederation playoffs, with a view to joining the already nine qualified African nations at the Finals.
It would mark Iwobi’s second appearance at the World Cup Finals and the Super Eagles’ first since the 2018 edition of the competition.
Back then, Iwobi featured in all three games as Nigeria was knocked out in the group stage.
