RSG Charges Shell, Others On Nigerians’ Welfare
The Rivers State Government, has asked Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and other multinational oil companies to do more in improving the lives of Nigerians.
Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi gave the charge while applauding the efforts of the SPDC in boosting the living conditions of the people during the Shell in Nigeria Sustainable Development and Community Relations Road show and Exhibition organised in Port Harcourt.
The governor represented by the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Fortune Oguru said the state dealt with the problem of insecurity in the past to pave way for business to thrive in the state.
He said government will continue to partner with Shell in ensuring the development of the state as well as making sure that the oil and gas industry continue to grow.
In his comments, the managing Director of SPDC, Mr. Mutui Sunmonu represented by the General Manager, Onshore office, Mr Hulton said Shell has impacted positive on the lives of the people in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Tai Local Government Council, Mr. Gbenekanu Kupie has restated the commitment of his administration to fight illegal oil bunkering and other forms of criminality.
The Tai council boss stated this while speaking with the Joint Security Taskforce at the council headquarters, who visited him to commend him on the effort so far to fight illegal oil bunkering.
Kupie reminded them of Governor Chibuike Amaechi determination in ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state and promised to partner with security agencies to combat crime and economic sabotage.
He, however, called on the people of the area to report any suspicious moves to the relevant authority for prompt action.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
