RSG Partners World Bank On Refuse Disposal
The Rivers State Government says, it is partnering with the World Bank to build a mechanised landfill for refuse disposal in the state.
The Commissioner for Environment, Dr Nyema Weli who said this during a stakeholders meeting with some companies and corporate organisations in his office, also called for collective efforts to manage refuse disposal in the state.
Mr Weli said that the companies can assist the government thought the provision of equipment for refuse disposal during sanitation exercises.
He also stressed the need for them to assist the government in its tree planting campaign with a view to restoring Port Harcourt back to its garden city status.
According to him, it is the dream of the present Administration in the state to leave behind a legacy of beautiful environment to future generation, but noted that, this can only be achieved with the support of all stakeholders in the state on the issue of double taxation, the commissioner said that government was working hard to harmonise all taxes being payed by companies in the state, while efforts were being made to ensure constant electricity supply in the state.
In their various speeches, some of the company representatives decried the incidence of double taxation which according to then was hampering business activities in the state.
They also called for aggressive road maintenance in the government as the present poor state of some roads in the state had become a source of concern.
