Rivers NUJ Condemns Killings of Aluu Four
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council
has condemned in strong terms the extrajudicial killing of four undergraduate
students of the University of Port Harcourt by suspected members of Aluu
community.
The NUJ in a statement issued by its State Chairman, Mr
Opaka Dokubo and the State Secretary, Mr. Stanley Job Stanley described the
brutal killing as barbaric, unlawful and unacceptable to any civilized society
of the world.
According to the statement, no reason is good enough for
anyone to take laws into his hands to the extent of terminating the lives of
the four young men that have not been pronounced guilty by any court of
competent jurisdiction.
The union sympathized with the families of the deceased as
well as the management, staff and students of the university over the
unfortunate incident, and appealed to them, particularly the students to be
calm and allow justice take its course.
The NUJ called on the Rivers State Government and the police
to stop at nothing to bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book of
their untimely death and as well serve as a deterrent to those who take delight
in breaching the rule of law.
