Rivers Gets Industrial Court After Two Years
President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Justice Babatunde Adenuro Adejumo has approved the establishment of a division of the industrial court in Rivers State.
Justice Adejumo stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the state Chief Judge, Justice Iche Ndu in his office in Port Harcourt, Thursday.
The Industrial Court President stated that the reason for the establishment of the court in the state is due to the highly industrialised nature of the state, adding that the state judiciary was the highest in the country.
He disclosed that the people of the state travel a long distance to prosecute their matters, noting that with the establishment of the court in the state, the people, especially those in the labour sector would have a siegh of relief.
He used the opportunity to announce that the court would start sitting at its temporary location within the stat judiciary by next month and commended the state governor, Chibuike Amaechi, Justice Iche Ndu and the judiciary for providing them an accommodation to commence sitting in Port Harcourt.
Justice Adejumo promised to work in harmony with the state government to promote the dispensation of justice in the state.
Earlier in his speech, the state chief judge, Justice Iche Ndu said he will work comparatively with the National Industrial Court of Nigeria for quick dispensation of cases in the state.
Justice Ndu told the NICN boss that the state has made available a temporary accommodation for the immediate take-off of the court in the state, adding that the court would start operation in the state two years after its inauguration.
The state chief judge averred that with the establishment of the industrial court in the state, members of the bar would no longer travel all the way from Port Harcourt to Calabar, Owerri and Enugu to attend industrial court cases.
