Audit Of Civil Servants Begins Next Weeka
The Rivers Government would begin the audit of its workers to eliminate ghost staff and those who falsified their ages.
The Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Mr Ngo Martyns-Yellowe, said this at a meeting with directors in the state civil service last Friday in Port Harcourt that the verification would commence by the middle of this month.
He said the staff audit was part of the government’s efforts to revamp the civil service for effective service delivery.
According to him, public impression of the state civil service is not encouraging, saying the weaknesses in the system such as frequent age falsification and ghost workers syndrome must be eliminated.
Martyns-Yellowe cautioned the directors not to weaken the system and urged them to ensure strict compliance with laid down service rules and procedures.
He advised them to cooperate with their permanent secretaries to ensure better working relationship for maximum productivity.
The chairman promised to tackle the issue of workers being promoted without financial benefits.
Chief Jonathan Gunn, who spoke on behalf of the directors, asked for the progression of directors on Grade level 16 and 17 and to allow those retired to leave with their service vehicles.
