Dame Jonathan Extols Mrs Ada George’s Virtues

eral Republic of Nigeria, Dame (Mrs) Patience Jonathan, says the vacuum created by the death of late Mrs Rose Adikiye George, the wife of the former Governor of the old Rivers State Chief Rufus Ada George will be difficult to fill.
Dame (Mrs) Jonathan who said this on Monday during the celebration and thanksgiving service at the St. Peters Church, said that the deceased, during her lifetime was more devoted to the service of God and humanity.
The nation’s first lady who was represented by the Special Asistant to the president on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Mrs. Precious Gbeneol said that, the late Rose Adikeye George did not use her position as the first lady of old Rivers State to oppress the poor.
“She was a woman with humility, a rare gem of a mother. The lesson is that we must strive to live in peace with all men” and stressed the need for all to make the necessary sacrifice to preserve her legacy.
In his sermon, the former Archbishop of the Niger Delta province and Bishop of Uyo Diocese of the Angelical Communion, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel E. Nglass described death as a necessary end for all humunity.
In his words, “here on earth, we come, we go. We must ask ourselves why we are here.”
The clergyman said that the deceased had lived a life of service, which showed why people were still celebrating her a year after she had died.
Rt. Rev. Nglass also stressed the need for spouses to be opened to each other as death may come knocking anytime.
The chairman of Okrika local government area, Hon. Tammy Williams said that the Okrika nation would continue to remember her for the part she played in the sustenance of peace in Okrika nation.
In an interview with newsmen, the chief mourner and former Governor of Old Rivers State, Chief Rufus Ada George said that his late wife had been a source of encouragement to him.
The service was attended by the wife of the state Governor, Mrs. Judith Amaechi, former Governor Peter Odili and his wife Justice Mary Odili, Dr. Ogbonanya Onu, former Governor of Abia state and other dignitaries.
