TUC Cautions Foreign Firms On Labour Laws
The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) last Thursday said that it would not tolerate foreign companies that deliberately disobeyed Nigeria’s labour laws.
“The TUC will not fold its arms and watch any flagrant attempt to mess up Nigeria’s laws and the labour rights and freedom of workers,’’ said Mr John Kolawole, TUC’s General Secretary.
Kolawole said this in a statement in reaction to disputes between the West African Tobacco Company/FMCG Distribution Company and the Food/Beverages and Tobacco Senior Staff Association.
He said that the congress was unhappy with the “state of affairs“ in the tobacco company.
He commended efforts made by the parties to settle their differences and to avoid any escalation that could further mar productivity.
He said that the tobacco company contributed immensely to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio of Nigeria and so should not be allowed to continue to be in distress.
He said the TUC would work toward restoring normalcy in the company soonest.
